Now if the universe is expanding, there has to be some force causing this. Scientists have called this force Dark Energy. It is spread throughout space, and surprisingly, 70 percent of the universe is made up of this dark energy. But dark energy is not only a huge unknown force in the universe. 

The universe is made of stars, planets, comets, and many other such bodies. They absorb, reflect or emit light. This is the visible matter. However, when space scientists calculated the gravity experienced by these visible matter bodies, it was much more than expected. This suggested that there were invisible bodies of matter in the universe that were pulling them. This was called Dark Matter.
